Who will manage and maintain the SoccerPlex?
The SoccerPlex and Discovery Sports Center will be managed and maintained by the Maryland Soccer Foundation (MSF). Full-time MSF staff consists of an Executive Director, a Director of Operations, a Financial Manager, a Discovery Sports Center Building Manager, a Soccer Programs Manager, a Marketing and Events Manager, a Sports Turf Manager, Assistant Manager and crew members. Part-time staff is hired by management for administrative and operational support.
Which soccer tournaments will be played annually at the SoccerPlex?
The SoccerPlex will hold eight to ten regionally or nationally recognized tournaments each year. Those include the MSI March Madness, Potomac Memorial Day, the Mid Atlantic Cup, the August Cup, the Thunder SoccerFest on Labor Day, the Discovery Cup Columbus Day tournament, Bethesda Girls and Boys Thanksgiving tournament, and the Maryland State Cup. Many of these tournaments will attract the top boys and girls youth teams from around the country. The Mid Atlantic Cup held on Father’s Day weekend is primarily a recreation and classic level tournament.
When are the next phases of the SoccerPlex scheduled to be completed?
The final phase includes two (2) additional fields. At completion, the Maryland SoccerPlex will have 24 fields.
What other facilities will be available at the park?
When completed, the South Germantown Recreational Park will provide multiple attractions for the whole family. The park has recently completed its Splash Playground and two (2) 18-Hole Miniature Golf Courses along with a spectacular Adventure Playground for kids. A 50-Station Driving Range and Archery Range have also been added. The park also has a 3-acre lake for model boating and miles of hiking and biking trails. Scheduled for completion over the next two years is an Indoor Aquatic Center and a Tennis and Fitness Center. Once complete, these features will make South Germantown Recreation Park one of the most attractive places to visit in the state.
